David Simkins

Rochester Institute of Technology
Associate Professor
Rochester, NY
David is fascinated by the potential of games, particularly role playing as a tool for facilitating and encouraging learning. He is also fascinated by the constraints and affordances of different games as tools for learning. Fortunately, he is able to study games, write about games, teach about games, and make games for non-commercial purposes without starving. He is an assistant professor at RIT's School of Interactive Games and Media, and a founding member of Games, Learning, and Society group, the MAGIC center, and the Learning and Educational Games IGDA SIG. Challenged by world circumstances to examine more deeply issues of race, colonialism and empire, David is working to increasingly target his work on games as a tool for challenging and a tool for maintaining inequitable power structures.
